Secretary Bessent said anyone doing business with Iranian airlines risks being cut off from the global financial system.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has issued sanctions on 36 entities that support Iran’s aviation sector, including moving weapons, personnel, and cargo. In addition, OFAC also targeted certain companies, foreign intermediaries, and transshipment routes that supported Iran’s procurement of U.S.-origin aircraft and technology.
OFAC is also suspending Iran-related aviation authorizations, including authorizations that allow overflights and non-U.S. airlines to fly U.S.-origin or U.S.-controlled commercial aircraft into Iran.
“Under Operation Economic Outcast, we promised severe consequences for those providing financial lifelines to the Iranian regime,” said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. “We followed through on that promise with sanctions on companies that continue to support Mahan Air. Let this be a warning to anyone doing business with Iran’s remaining airlines, all of which we sanctioned today: You are at risk of being cut off from the global financial system.”
